The comparison of azyl homes in terms of the perception and response to the needs of children - Shelters for mothers and children in Prague

The bachelor thesis is dealing with the needs of children, how shelters recognize them, and how they eventually react to those needs. Although shelters are mainly meant for mothers and their children, from the perspective of a social worker is the mother usually the client. It follows therefore that the needs of children are often shifted to the background and those of the mother are given the priority. However, the situation that led the mother to seek the shelter does not only affect the mother alone. The child is also influenced in every way and is aware whether the mother gives the child the needed care. It can happen that the physical and psychological needs of the child are not fully met because of the difficult situation they are in. The theoretical part of the thesis concentrates on the needs of children, shelters and their functioning in neighbouring countries, the different situations that can force women to seek the service of shelters etc. The practical part of the thesis shows that shelters are protecting not only the mothers, but also their children. By reinforcing the mother's competences shelters can help to fulfil the needs of children to a greater extent. For my practical part of the thesis, I chose to conduct qualitative research consisting of a questionnaire with open questions....
